THE MAKING

Indonesia is legendary for the diversity of its natural resources and ancestral crafts, and amongst them, its textile tradition. It is the home of the famous Batik print, of Ikat weaving, of leather and exotic skins, exported throughout the world.

The island of Bali has been an inspiration to fashion designers worldwide for decades, as a vibrant multi-cultural breeding ground for artists and craftsmen, at the crossroads of all this savoir-faire.

That is how it became the creative home of HANDS OF OIZO, where we designed and produced our collection.

100% NATURAL LEATHER:

HANDS OF OIZO carefully selects each single piece of leather and skin with our Javanese suppliers, to ensure the best quality. Our items are 100% made of natural leather (cow, goat, lamb leather and sheep suede).

RESPECTING BIODIVERSITY:

No protected or endangered animal species are ever used: The texture of our faux crocodile is an embossed pattern on natural cow or goat leather.

THE VALUE OF WORK:

HANDS OF OIZO is the result of the collaboration of a very small and closely-knit team. It is a shared adventure between a French designer and Indonesian expert leather craftsmen, ensuring a direct relation and fair remuneration of work. We stand far from any mass production system or subcontract, that would not benefit the workers.

THE DESIGNER

‘CREATION IS MY VITAL NEED; STYLE IS MY LANGUAGE.’

HANDS OF OIZO was founded by French fashion designer Blandine B.

She was born a designer. Fascinated since ever by style and clothing, she grew up with a pencil in her hand. She re-drew the History of Costume from an early age, feeding her inspiration through illustrated books, paintings, museums and cinema. Oftentimes dressing up with vintage pieces from her mother’s closet and rummaging about in the family relics trunks. As a child, she started creating clothes from paper and sticky tape, from textile and staples; then in her teenage years she hastened to learn sewing and started to make her own outfits.
Hands-on, she works through the whole process, from idea to finished product.

FASHION IS HER SOCIOLOGY: AN OPEN WINDOW TO THE DIVERSITY OF THE WORLD: PERIODS, PEOPLE, PERSONALITIES…

Graduated from LISAA Paris (The Superior Institute of Applied Arts) in Fashion design & Pattern-making in 2002, she worked for around ten years in a renowned Trends Forecasting agency in Paris – providing consultancy for international women’s fashion brands, analyzing society, its cultural evolutions, imagining the fashions of tomorrow, setting trends and identifying innovations.

In addition to trends-setting and collections design, she extended her experience for two years into branding and art direction for international brands.

Shaped by this diverse experience in concept, design, marketing and image, she finally felt the need to get back in touch with her first love: manual work, and develop her own style inspirations.

Several trips to Indonesia provided the vital spark: Seduced by its inspiring creative energy and its handcrafts culture, she decided to spend time in Bali and work on her innovative brand vision, which would combine her specific expertise with the tradition of Indonesian leather crafts.

In 2014, she set the creative studio of HANDS OF OIZO, where she imagines, designs and produces her collections with the help of expert leather craftsmen.
